About Us

Training Philosophy

A well-trained dog is a pleasure to live with. Our goal at The Country Dog is to teach you the positive, humane and holistic training methods that will help your dog reach that goal. Dogs are part of our family, but they don’t speak our language. Our rewards-based methods, based on the most recent research in canine behavior, will help you learn to communicate with your dog using a language he can understand. The result is a dog that is eager to learn.

Rewards-based training will enhance the relationship between you and your dog, teach basic good manners, and address any problem behaviors that are getting in your way, including jumping, pulling, mouthing and reactivity toward other dogs.
The Country Dog will set you up for success and make it fun in the process, We’re here for both you and your dog!

Susan Kaminsky

Susan Kaminsky, owner and founder of The Country Dog, is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) by the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers and a professional member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers.
In 2006 Susan left her previous work as a manager in the corporate and not-for-profit sectors to pursue her passion in life and began training dogs full-time. Prior to becoming a full-time trainer, she spent many hours as an Assistant Trainer for group classes and observing/handling dogs in day care. This experience greatly contributed to her knowledge of dog behavior and body language.

Susan takes her continuing education as a trainer quite seriously. Every year she attends many seminars and workshops on topics including how dogs learn, dog behavior and behavior modification techniques, and training and temperament evaluation and assessment. Recently these have included workshops, seminars and academies conducted by noted trainers Suzanne Clothier, Pat Miller, Patricia McConnell, Pia Silvani and Sue Sternberg, as well as attendance at the Association of Pet Dog Trainers annual conferences and Karen Pryor’s Clicker Expo. She is the featured trainer for PAWS Bark in the Park held annually in Fairfield County, CT.

She lives in Southern Fairfield County, CT with two collies, Maddie and Zig Zag, and her cat, KC.
